CharitiesWe hope to raise money for two rather different, but both very deserving causes as a result of our row. Initially, we'd set a target of raising £1 for each mile we'll row for each of them, but having reached over 50% of this target before we even set off, we have boldly put faith in the generosity of our friends, family, colleagues and others and raised this to £2 per mile, just before the start. All we can say is THANK YOU! St Mungo'sSt Mungo's "opens doors for homeless people", operating mainly in London (where we live) and also in Oxford (where we used to live). Richard has long been an active supporter of initiatives to help the homeless, having worked as an occasional volunteer at the nightshelter in Oxford when a student, and also spending a year after finishing university as a full time, residential volunteer at the Spitalfields Crypt Trust, a rehabilitation centre for homeless alcoholics in the east end of London. Each £100 raised could provide mentoring for someone going back into employment; £1,000 could provide healthy food (often cooked by the residents themselves, which they find highly rewarding) for one of the charity's larger hostels, whilst £5,000 could provide the basic medical equipment needed in all St Mungo's hostels this year. I & P Society No. 20598R. Housing Association No. LH0279. St Mungo's, Griffin House, 161 Hammersmith Road, London, W6 8BS. The Huntington's Disease AssociationThe HDA exists to support anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease by pursueing the best possible care; provides training and advice to families and professionals; raises awareness; and promotes research towards better treatment and ultimately a cure. One of the reasons why we've chosen to support it is that, for the last ten years, or so, we've watched a fellow member of the skiffing and punting community gradually be increasingly affected by its progress. It has no cure YET, and is a hereditary disorder. If you have the gene, you will develop the condition. You can also donate using JustTextGiving by texting TVGI56 and the amount to 70070 e.g.: This message is free to send on all networks in the UK.
